Among the many important topics covered are Italian President, Matteo Salvini, who raised the possibility of seizing control of the nation's gold reserves, which are the third largest in the world, after those of the US and Germany. Salvini is challenging the independence of the Bank of Italy, that country's equivalent of the Federal Reserve Bank.
Salvini commented on Monday that, "The gold is the property of the Italian people, not of anyone else." These comments followed his call for the removal of the central bank's leadership for their failure to prevent the nation's banking crisis and he referred to "jail time". He also called for the elimination of Italy's central bank and of the country's financial regulator, Consob (Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa), saying that the two institutions should be "Reduced to zero" – in other words, eliminated!
